The Chief Executive of the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), Peter Harvey MBE, has attended a meeting of Britain’s HSE policy members, to look at the future of health and safety in Great Britain.
Organised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the health and safety strategy roadshow in Birmingham saw 80 stakeholders – from a range of sectors – assemble to discuss the formulation of a new, five-year health and safety strategy.
Peter said: “I am proud to have been invited to attend on behalf of the FLTA. The Association has played a leading role in addressing issues of workplace transport safety: Raising awareness and reducing accidents through the provision of advice, best practice resources, conferences and events. It is encouraging to have our prominent position, as a leader of workplace safety, recognised.”
One of the first in a series of regional strategy meetings seeking to engage with British industry, it is hoped that the conferences will ultimately engage with more than 1000 of the UK’s best-respected health and safety and business leaders.
In her invitation, HSE Chair, Judith Hackitt CBE, said: “We can already be proud of our record – it’s one of the best in the world. Making this great record even better is now the challenge, so that we can all continue to help the nation and regions of GB work well.”
Peter continued: “The meeting was very positive. It is very encouraging that the HSE are involving those in industry with the knowledge and experience in planning their policies.
“Improving health and safety in the workplace concerns everybody and it’s only right that we all work together toward this goal.
“We look forward to playing an even more influential role in fork lift truck safety in the future and building on successful initiatives such as the Safe User Group, Safer Site Programme, Safety Conference, Safety Month, and the Awards for Excellence.”
