PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export awards won by language provider

Global interpreting and translation company thebigword has been named as Entrepreneurial Exporter of the Year at the inaugural PD Ports the.
Supported by the Department for International Trade, the awards celebrate businesses that show excellence in international trade across the north of England.
Founded in Leeds, UK in 1980, thebigword supports a number of high-profile clients including public sector bodies in the UK, USA and EU, such as the NHS, the New York Department of Education and The Ministry of Justice. They also work with some of the biggest tech companies in Silicon Valley and support high-tech manufacturers in China and Japan, including Huawei and Honda.
thebigword’s reputation for excellence and innovative software and technology offerings recently won the company a £120 million contract with The Ministry of Justice to provide Interpreting and Translation services to the UK judicial system. Their innovations have allowed thebigword to dramatically reduce translation turnaround times, and their in-house products and expansive network of over 14,000 linguists allow them to easily handle large contracts that have been notoriously difficult for their competitors to manage in the past.
In response to thebigword having been awarded Entrepreneurial Exporter of the Year, Larry Gould, Chief Executive Officer of thebigword, said:
“I believe that here at thebigword, we offer the very best translation and interpreting services of any company in the world. We started as a very small firm of just four people, and now we have over 600 staff based at nine offices around the globe in markets ranging from South America to Asia to Europe and more.
“It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff that we’re seeing such success. It’s sometimes difficult to explain what we do, but whether it’s helping a woman through labour, performing high-stakes negotiations in a conflict zone, or ensuring that a company like Electrolux can bring its products to the global market as quickly as possible, thebigword staff and our partner linguists are always right there at the heart of the action, breaking down language barriers.
“I’m delighted that thebigword’s hard work is being recognised At the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards. On behalf of everyone at the company, I’d like to thank PD Ports and DIT for this award and say that we’re determined to continue innovating, improving and growing in the months and years to come.”
