US trade tariffs impacting transfer pricing

Businesses are facing increased difficulties in managing their costs due to tariff wars ignited by US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs, say leading audit, tax and business advisory firm, Blick Rothenberg.

Susan Vincent, who has been appointed as Transfer Pricing Partner at the firm, said: “Transfer pricing, which is the pricing of transactions between businesses under the same ownership, is being impacted by the current geopolitical environment. Tariff wars, triggered by Donald Trump’s trade tariffs are driving rapid increases in costs, requiring businesses to review and adjust their supply chain and transfer pricing strategy. Trump’s unpredictable back-and-forth on tariffs is fuelling widespread uncertainty, leaving businesses struggling to make long-term plans.”

She added: “Higher tariffs are likely to erode profit margins for certain businesses. As a result, companies may need to rethink how and where they source their materials and may seek alternative suppliers. Group transfer pricing policies must align with commercial operations, and companies will need to consider which entity within the group ultimately bears the risk, and associated cost.”

Susan said: “Although there are no additional US tariffs announced for goods imported from the UK at this stage, the UK economy is still likely to be negatively impacted by the volatility and British businesses with global operations need to be dynamic in addressing any supply chain shocks.”

She added: “I joined Blick Rothenberg in 2025 to lead the transfer pricing team, having previously worked for the Big 4 in London and New York, as well as a tax practice within a consulting firm. I have worked with a wide range of companies, from private equity backed businesses to FTSE100 companies, headquartered either in the UK or overseas. My international experience allows me to apply a truly global lens when working with my clients.”

Susan said: “Clients’ businesses are continuously evolving, as well as the transfer pricing landscape. Staying on top of those changes and supporting my clients accordingly helps to make their lives a lot easier.”
