Knowles Logistics has strengthened its fleet with the addition of a new electric rigid truck and six new tractor units as part of its ongoing investment in operational efficiency and long-term journey towards net zero.
Electric vehicle expansion
The latest addition is a fully electric DAF LF Electric which brings the number of electric vehicles operated by Knowles to 11. It will be utilised on collection and delivery routes supporting local pallet network deliveries. With an operating range of around 150 miles, the vehicle is ideally suited to regional operations and urban deliveries. It enables Knowles to move short-haul work to zero-emission transport whilst maintain the reliability required on C&D routes.
The company has also taken delivery of four DAF XG 480 FTG and two DAF XG 530 FTG tractor units. Designed for long-distance trunking, the 44-tonne units feature a 3.95-metre wheelbase and are powered by DAF’s efficient MX-13 engine, delivering strong performance while supporting improved fuel efficiency across the fleet.
Driver safety and comfort were key considerations in the specification. The trucks are equipped with DAF’s Corner View system, a kerb-view window in the co-driver door, reverse warning technology and the manufacturer’s City Safety Package to improve visibility and safety in busy environments. Inside the XG cab, drivers benefit from luxury air-suspended seating, integrated infotainment and navigation systems. It also includes a refrigerator, storage drawer, and sleeper accommodation with an Xtra Comfort mattress and upper bunk. The vehicles were supplied by Kings Lynn-based DAF dealer Ford & Slater.
Strong partnership with vehicle supplier
Josh Spencer, EV & Sustainability Manager at Ford & Slater commented: “We’ve developed a strong working relationship with the Knowles team over the past couple of years, working closely together to ensure the right vehicles are in place to support their growing operation. It’s been fantastic to see the DAF trucks performing so well within the fleet, delivering the driver comfort, efficiency and reliability that Knowles expects. We’re proud to be supporting them as they continue to invest in their fleet and build for the future.”
Alex Knowles, CEO of award-winning Knowles Logistics, said the investment reflects the company’s continued focus on modernising its fleet while reducing environmental impact.
“This investment strengthens our fleet with the latest vehicle technology while supporting our wider sustainability goals. The electric DAF LF allows us to move more of our collection and delivery activity onto zero-emission vehicles. The new DAF XG units provide the performance, efficiency and driver comfort required for our long-distance trunking operations.
“As a business we are committed to continually improving the efficiency and sustainability of our fleet as part of our long-term net zero journey.”
Knowles Logistics is committed to ensuring ongoing fleet investment will continue to play a pivotal role in its expansion trajectory.
