Get to know Carl White, Network Director at Palletline.
What first drew you into the logistics industry? And what do you love about it now?
My father was a director of a logistics company, so I followed in his footsteps. I used to go to work with him after I left school and joined another company as I wanted to work in the industry. There are so many different elements to the logistics industry whether it be parcels, storage, distribution – there is a lot to get your teeth into, and it keeps me interested.
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Definitely Freddie Mercury. The stories he could tell would be incredible and so interesting. I am a huge fan of Queen but never had the opportunity to see him live as I would have been too young. The chance to speak with him would be great.
If you were stranded on a desert island with only 3 items, what would they be?
A tricky one – but if I had to choose it would be a mobile phone mainly for music rather than the communication element. A toothbrush. And a dingy in case I wanted to get away!
What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
During one part of my working life I was head of logistics for a sculpture company – managing the deliveries of fine and high value art. It was a US company and I was a member of a small team based in Europe responsible for moving these sensitive and highly value pieces around Europe. A major part of the role was in the planning to ensure the deliveries ran smoothly and most importantly reached their destination intact. It was both a challenging and a fun role.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Driven, dependable and fun.
If you could live in a fictional world, where would it be and why?
It would have to be somewhere hot with good weather.
Favourite holiday you’ve ever been on and why?
A mediterranean cruise. I love being able to go straight from Southampton without having to get on a plane, stay in what is equivalent to a 5 star English hotel and have the ability to visit the likes of Rome, Barcelona etc. For me it makes for the perfect holiday.
If you could give your younger self some advice, what would you say?
Keep pushing, stay driven and don’t let up
What is the first concert you ever went to?
I am not a huge fan of concerts however every year I take my daughter to the Capital Summertime Ball which she loves.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I plan on staying where I am and continuing to further my career at Palletline.
