Multimodal logistics centre unveils new sea simulation courses

Modal Training, the UK’s first fully-integrated multimodal logistics training centre, has revealed its course offering for the sea sector, which will support its £2million investment in a simulation suite from Kongsberg Maritime, the global leader in marine training technology.
A full range of marine simulator courses will be delivered for deck, engineering and electro-technical officers working, or aspiring to work, in the deep sea, offshore and port sectors. Highly experienced instructors will be employed to deliver industry-accredited courses. These will cover: Bridge Resource and Team Management; Dynamic Positioning (DP); ECDIS; Navigation and Radar (NARS); Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS); Human Element, Leadership & Management (HELM); High Voltage (HV); Engine Room; and Vessel Traffic Service (VTS).
Modal Training’s £7million facility in Immingham will house a Full Mission Bridge DNV Class A Kongsberg K-Sim simulator, incorporating a detailed 360o model of the Humber, as well as forward and aft bridge stations for DP and Anchor Handling operations. This can be connected to work simultaneously with the Engine Room simulator to provide full crew training.
Modal has also invested in a K-Sim Class C desktop simulator system, with six PCs for dynamic positioning training, and a desktop K-Sim ECDIS radar simulator for up to six students. The engine room suite is equipped with a full mission K-Sim engine simulator with new high voltage breaker functionality, and a desktop engine room. A K-Sim VTS operator simulator completes the new equipment line-up.
Patrick Henry, Managing Director of Modal Training, commented:
“Whilst Modal Training’s investment is directed at the offshore renewable sector, the course provision will be attractive to all mariners refreshing their qualifications, developing new skills or completing gaps in their current proficiencies. The hallmark of this course offering will be practically focussed, cognitive-based training that emphasises experiential learning for students.
“Our training will be the ideal solution for organisations conducting their own internal training programmes or wishing to explore mission rehearsal scenarios. With this facility and teaching capability, we believe that Modal Training’s offering will be world class.”
