Traders Corner – Carole Loader

Carole Loader, Director at international education quality assurance software specialist, Mesma

1 What does ‘logistics’ mean to you?

It’s about having the right products, people and infrastructure in place to ensure that our customers receive the highest standards of service and support.

2 What made you want to work in the industry?

The capacity to pass on my knowledge and expertise to others through education and seeing them grow and develop as people has always been a driver for me.

3 If you could change anything in the industry what would it be?

It would be helpful to rethink how we carry out assessment in education. We defiantly need to find alternatives ways of representing our young people’s strengths, recognising their achievement over time and help them to make the links between their study, real work to ensure that at the point of finishing their learning they feel more equipped to enter the workplace.

4 What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?

After all these months of lockdown, I recently went into a store to buy some new clothes and forgot my purse – another senior moment. The shop staff were very understanding!

5 What three traits define you?

Can I have more than three? It has to be curiosity, honesty, and hard work. I’m also a perfectionist.

6 What’s the most important trend you see today?

Moves to improve quality right across the education spectrum with more investment in resources have been revelatory in the last few years.

7 How do you define success?

Success to me is helping and supporting clients to be the best they can when it comes to quality provision, seeing them challenge themselves and their colleagues to become better, more engaged people.

8 What’s the most interesting thing about you, which we wouldn’t learn from your CV?

Most of my colleagues wouldn’t believe me if I said I’m a cross-stitch enthusiast; I find it very calming and extremely therapeutic. I also grow my on fruit and vegetable, although to date I’ve yet to harvest enough to feed myself let alone the whole family.

9 If you weren’t working at Mesma, what would you be doing?

It’s difficult to see myself doing something else but if I was to do anything I would like to be involved in more Governing Bodies for my local schools, colleges and universities. As well as extending my quality assurance assessor work to include a wider set of standards.

10 Where do you see yourself in five years?

Continuing to lead a growing company increasingly working across the world, travelling to different countries and helping people to deliver the highest standards of education quality assurance possible.
