British Arab Commercial Bank (BACB) appoints Head of Legal

British Arab Commercial Bank (BACB), the UK-regulated international wholesale bank dedicated to specialist markets, has appointed Gil Cohen as Head of Legal. In his role, Gil will report directly to Eddie Norton, CEO at BACB, and will lead a team responsible for providing advice on a broad range of legal matters.  Additionally, Gil will also be responsible for managing the bank’s relationships with a panel of leading law firms.

Gil, who joined BACB in September 2021 as a Senior Legal Counsel, brings 15 years of experience to the role, having worked across both the legal and financial markets for a range of banks and law firms. His extensive expertise spans legal management, training and development, company secretarial, legal risk mitigation and litigation; with previous positions held including Legal Counsel at Bank ABC, Banco Santander, and as an Associate at global law firm Reed Smith LLP.

Commenting on the appointment, BACB CEO Eddie Norton says: “As a bank operating across specialist markets, ensuring that we receive the best legal guidance is of paramount importance.  The Head of Legal is an important leadership role, Gil’s appointment reflects both his ability and commitment to the bank. I am delighted to announce the appointment of an expert of his calibre to this position, which is an affirmation of BACB’s on-going commitment to invest in our people and develop talent.”

Based in London and regulated in the UK, BACB prides itself on a proven track record of excellence. The bank’s strong relationship-banking approach and deep product and region expertise make it the partner of choice in financing trade flows to and from specialist markets.
