Liebherr’s LHM cranes adapt to offshore, bulk and heavy lift operations, with electrification built into the platform’s design

From offshore supply bases to bulk terminals and heavy lift operations, the LHM product range has been applied in distinct operational settings. Offshore logistics in Florø: electric LHM 280 in practice
At Saga Fjordbase in Norway, the LHM 280 was selected to support offshore logistics at a supply base that handles thousands of vessel calls each year. The crane is equipped with an electric drive system and a reactive power compensation unit that helps stabilise voltage and reduce strain on the local grid. This is especially relevant in regions with sensitive energy infrastructure. With an 84-tonne winch and 40-metre outreach, the crane is configured for the types of lifts typical in offshore supply. Features such as weather-protected access support safe and reliable operation throughout the year.
Bulk handling in Visakhapatnam: dual electric LHM 550s
In Visakhapatnam, India, Green Energy Resources chose two LHM 550 cranes in a four-rope configuration, tailored for high-intensity bulk operations. These cranes are fully electric and designed to handle abrasive materials in humid coastal conditions. Overpressure systems protect key components from dust and moisture. Delivered fully assembled, the cranes were intended to enter service quickly, reflecting the time-sensitive nature of bulk terminal operations. With a safe working load of 124 tonnes, the cranes are built for consistent throughput and efficient grab handling.
Heavy lift in Bremerhaven: shore-power ready LHM 550
At Bremerhaven’s AutoTerminal, BLG LOGISTICS introduced an LHM 550 with a 4.8-metre tower extension, 54-metre outreach and a two-rope configuration rated for 154 tonnes. This setup supports the terminal’s mix of RoRo cargo, vehicles and project lifts. The crane is equipped to be able to operate with shore power. This feature reflects long-term infrastructure planning and environmental goals. The crane complements an existing Liebherr fleet and is configured to meet the terminal’s operational needs while remaining compatible with electrification infrastructure.
A platform that adapts to its environment
The LHM product range continues to show how a single crane platform can be applied across very different operational settings. Whether supporting offshore supply, bulk cargo or heavy lift, the cranes are configured to match the specific demands of the quay.
