Changing market dynamics drives soaring growth at Scala

Scala, an international provider of  consultancy services for the supply chain and logistics sector, has reported a record-breaking year for turnover. This comes as the business continues to adapt to changing market conditions, such as the continued rise of automation, increased Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) activity and environmental pressures.

In its 20th year of operation, company turnover at Scala has increased by a staggering 32% above the previous highest level, due to the company’s continued expansion both domestically and internationally.

Staff headcount has also increased by 29% after a number of senior hires, with Scala having significantly strengthened its employed consultancy team. This reflects both the increase in business and the need to ensure both Scala and its international client base are fully compliant with the new IR35 regulations, which are a particular challenge in the consultancy industry.

The most recent addition to the team is Senior Logistics Consultant Holly Hadfield. Holly, who brings excellent data modelling expertise, as well as a wide-ranging experience of logistics operations, systems and finances, will head up supply strategy modelling.

Scala’s continued growth over the past year has been attributed to a number of factors. Firstly, the challenges of past 18 months have incentivised companies to review their supply chain strategies and optimise their logistics networks to build resilience and flexibility.

The acceleration in companies looking to AI, robotics and automation, to assist with the changing logistics landscape, has also been a contributing factor. In addition, Scala’s supply chain due diligence service has seen an increase in demand due to an overall increase in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) activity.

Finally, and arguably most importantly, Scala has launched a number of initiatives over the past year designed to place environmental sustainability at front of mind for both the business and its international client base.

Scala has adopted the triple bottom line for measuring success i.e. People, Profit, Planet – all three are vital. Scala are also now Accredited Partners of the Future-Fit Foundation and through this partnership, the Scala team will be helping businesses become truly sustainable through achieving ambitious environmental goals based on systems science. The business has also partnered with Compare your Footprint to provide its client portfolio with a scientific software system for quantifying supply chain emissions, which often represent up to 90% of a businesses’ carbon footprint.

Scala itself has set a goal to achieve Net Zero this year, with the business having invested in an entirely zero-emission company car fleet, and all staff using their own cars being incentivised to make the change to electric.

John Perry, Managing Director at Scala, said: “It’s fantastic that businesses from across the world are turning to us for supply chain, logistics and procurement expertise. The sector has experienced unprecedented challenges over the past 18 months, and the experienced input of an expert consultant has never been more valuable to businesses looking to stay ahead of the many challenges facing the industry.

“Scala is now increasingly seen as an internationally-renowned consultancy that brings innovation, data modelling expertise, the latest in technological developments and, importantly, a pragmatic and critical approach from our highly experienced team. We have an excellent reputation across industry for our honesty and, above all, for our consultants’ capability to work with our clients’ teams.”
