CSignum has completed a £2.6 million funding round to accelerate commercial deployment of its EM2 product portfolio. The company will deploy the technology across multiple markets and applications, including water quality monitoring.
The investment supports CSignum’s mission to enable AI applications across the physical world. Its technology extends reliable data communications to underwater and below ground environments that conventional systems struggle to connect.
Investors back commercial expansion
Archangels, PXN Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, British Business Bank and US based angel investors have provided additional investment. CSignum will use the funding to support commercial expansion and increase manufacturing capacity. The company completed a £6 million investment with its existing investor group in April 2025.
Since then, CSignum has progressed from pilot projects to volume deployments with UK water utilities and international customers. UK Section 82, AMP8, requirements have helped drive sales growth by increasing demand for continuous water quality monitoring.
The requirements cover combined storm overflows, CSOs, and sewage discharge points. Utilities must monitor 25% of England’s 14,000 plus CSOs during AMP8, which runs until 2030. They must monitor the remaining sites under AMP9, which runs until 2035.
CSignum is exploring further opportunities for its wireless through water and through ground communications technology. The company is also enabling new sensing capabilities through a smart buoy project in the Gulf of Mexico. CSignum has completed successful pilots with two major US water quality monitoring organisations. The company also supports through ground sensing for a large scale critical infrastructure project in Asia.
New CEO appointed
CSignum also confirms that John Nicholls has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Jonathan Reeves, a successful US-based technology entrepreneur. Jon will transition to the role of Chief Strategy Officer. Nicholls brings broad experience as both CEO and Chief Commercial Officer in international sales growth, fundraising, M&A and strategic partnerships. He has worked across a wide range of market sectors including photonics, quantum technologies, space, semiconductors and EV infrastructure.
John Nicholls, CEO CSignum said, “I’m excited to be joining CSignum at this pivotal moment in its journey. The team has built a differentiated technology and strong customer relationships across diverse market sectors. My focus now is turning that potential into large-scale deployments. More broadly, CSignum exists to close the communications gap between inaccessible parts of the physical world and the digital and AI systems that increasingly depend on them. This investment lets us do exactly that, faster.”
Investors highlight commercial potential
Dan McKiddie, Investment Manager, Archangels said, “CSignum continues to make strong commercial progress. This investment reflects our continued confidence in the team and the technology, which is beginning to fulfil its potential of disrupting established markets. We’re pleased to back John’s transition into the CEO role as the business enters its next phase of growth.”
Claire Cramm, Investment Manager at PXN Ventures, “The physical world has always been the hardest place to get data out of, particularly anything underwater or underground. CSignum’s approach solves that without the cost and complexity of cabling, with monitoring requirements in water and other infrastructure sectors becoming more stringent. By backing businesses like CSignum, PXN is helping build critical UK infrastructure capability while supporting genuine deep tech that’s found early commercial pull.”
Derek Shaw, Director Company Funding & Investment at Scottish Enterprise, “Scottish Enterprise is delighted to continue to support CSignum’s ambition to transform how critical infrastructure is monitored through its pioneering wireless communications technology. Advanced sensing and connectivity technologies are a key growth opportunity for Scotland, and companies such as CSignum can play a vital role in strengthening our economy by scaling internationally, creating high-value jobs and bringing innovative Scottish solutions to global markets.”
