ONE extends green transport network

Ocean Network Express (ONE), committed to reducing its CO2 emissions and reducing negative impacts on the environment, has broadened their green rail transport network.

The container shipping company already offered eco-friendly rail services via the northern seaports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven to many European hinterland terminals and has recently added the missing green links to the cities of Dortmund in Germany and Basel in Switzerland.

By partnering with the green TFGeco train product, as operated by German rail operator TFG Transfracht, ONE has taken another step to emphasise the liner’s green aspirations to minimize any adverse impact of their scope 3 inland transportation activities.

TFGeco train works by completely covering the electricity requirements of the rail transport by means of renewable energies. Non-avoidable CO2 emissions on non-electrified routes becomes CO2-neutral by compensation. The greenhouse gasses emission savings and compensation has been TÜV-tested and certified.

Environmental protection is right at the top of TFG Transfracht’s agenda. As part of the TFGreen sustainability strategy, TFG Transfracht offers real climate solutions and thus proactively pursues environmental protection.

Joern Seidlitz, Head of Operations at ONE’s branch office in Hamburg said “ONE continually strives to implement environmental solutions for our transports. Making use of TFGeco train is another example of sustainable services which adds value to our green inland strategy”.

Head of Key Account Management at TFG Transfracht GmbH, Mr Jakob Grützner, adds “Rail transport is amongst the most eco-friendly means of transport but moving containers based on renewable energy and compensating unavoidable CO2 emission contributes to improving the environment even further. ONE’s interest in our product proves we’re heading the right way by offering green products to our customer base. As eco-conscious partners we mutually can make a difference in perspective of sustainability and eco-conscious thinking.”
