What does ‘logistics’ mean to you?

To me, logistics is synonymous with coordination. It is not only about trucks, boats, or planes per se but most importantly the orchestration of the pieces into one flow.

What made you want to work in the industry?

There are two types of people in logistics, those that were born into it and others that fell into it completely by accident. I am in the latter camp. I graduated from college during the financial crisis and ended up spending a year as a stock trader before I left and took a short term consulting gig at a trucking company. I enjoyed my work but, honestly, I spent my first few years actively trying to leave the industry. It was not until I was a few years in – when I saw the necessity of the industry and the potential, I could have to influence change within it – that I really enjoyed being in logistics.

If you could change anything in the industry what would it be?

I am so happy that I do not see as many fax machines and typewriters when I visit different client offices anymore, but I would really love to see the industry go more paperless.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?

I was at an end of year party for my son’s school and people were actually curious about what I do and had good questions on logistics. I know it does not sound like much but pre-Covid and pre-logistics technology, people just assumed I was a truck driver!
