Traders corner – Susy Keating

Susy Keating, Managing Director of industrial impact protection specialists Brandsafe

What does ‘logistics’ mean to you?

It’s a critical part of the supply chain process, getting our products to the right place at the right time at the right price. It also ensures that our customers are happy – never more so than during these challenging times for us all.

What made you want to work in the industry?

The excitement, the pace, the challenge and the variety all make our industry one of the most interesting, rewarding and dynamic to be working in.

If you could change anything in the industry, what would it be?

The capacity to have more foresight would be fantastic. I know everyone in business would love to be able to predict the future, but being able to glimpse over the hill to see what our customers will want in the coming years would be so welcome.

 What three traits define you?

Commitment, loyalty and the capacity to inspire in a fun, positive way to help people realise their full potential. Those are the traits that best define me.

What’s the most important trend you see today?

Unquestionably, it’s the seemingly unstoppable march of e-commerce and online sales driving the unprecedented levels of warehouse and logistics development within the construction industry. The market’s almost unrecognisable from even two years’ ago. It’s a trend that will only continue well into the future. The bi-product of this is the necessity for busier warehouses and workplaces to keep their people and their property safe – so we’re definitely seeing a demand for more protective equipment around the industrial warehouse.

 How do you define success?

Success is defined by the people who work at Brandsafe, who they become and their achievements. I love to see our people grow and succeed as individuals.

What’s the most interesting thing about you, which we wouldn’t learn from your CV?

I’m a second dan black belt in karate, specifically Tang Soo Do – a classical martial art that aims to develop every aspect of the ‘self’ in order to produce a more rounded person.

If you weren’t working at Brandsafe, what would you be doing?

I’ve always been fascinated by the law, so would have loved to have studied to become a barrister, particularly a court room prosecutor.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Brandsafe’s growth is inextricably linked to our customers, so developing our design and manufacturing capabilities in the next five years will continue to provide customers with added value solutions, which make a tangible and lasting impact on workplace safety.
