DHL breaks ground at new warehouse in Worksop

DHL Supply Chain has officially broken ground on its latest warehouse development at Manton Wood, Worksop. Once complete, the 50,000 sq.m multi-user facility will accommodate COMAH products within the retail and consumer business while providing existing and new customers with the space to grow their businesses in the future.

Featuring an automated 28m high bay and an 18m low bay, DHL will maximise pallet and throughput capacity at the site by employing the latest efficient handling systems, ambient storage and automated retrieval systems. The site will also provide parking for 154 Heavy Goods Vehicles, as well as electric vehicle charging points, a fuel island, a vehicle wash and a weigh bridge.

Strategically located with easy access to the A57 and A1, the 63-acre site benefits from outline planning permission for 93,000 sqm of logistics development, providing the potential to almost double the size of the operation in the future in a second building, if required.

As part of DHL’s commitment to reduce logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050, the new development will feature a number of energy-saving innovations that far exceed current regulations for a building of its type, including daylight harvesting, intelligent LED lighting, solar thermal hot water, grey water harvesting for welfare facilities and landscaping irrigation.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Jim Hartshorne, Managing Director Retail and Consumer UK&I at DHL Supply Chain said: “We’re delighted to be formally commencing work on our new site, which will provide our customers with some of the best facilities in the UK for the storage and transportation of COMAH products, while reducing our impact on the environment.”

The development at Manton Wood is expected to be completed by Summer 2020.
