Freight Association names training development manager

Graeme Wilkinson has been promoted by the British International Freight Association (BIFA) and becomes the training development manager for the Trade Association that represents UK freight forwarding and logistics businesses.

Graeme joined BIFA’s training team in 2017 and has played a major role in the re-design of all of BIFA’s training materials since it took its extensive portfolio of training and education activities in-house, replacing an external contractor.

He has over 25 years of freight forwarding experience, including spells at Pantos Logistics, C.H. Robinson, MIQ Logistics and Emery Worldwide, and now heads BIFA’s five-strong training team.

Graeme reports to Carl Hobbis, one of BIFA’s executive directors who also has overall responsibility for the trade association’s training activities, and he says: “During Graeme’s six years at BIFA he has shown how his wide range of industry knowledge, covering many aspects of forwarding and logistics, can provide excellent support for the delivery of our freight and customs training programmes.

“2022 was another excellent year for BIFA’s training activities, which continue to go from strength to strength and are generally seen as the most engaging in the industry.

“We are anticipating demand for all the different courses and programmes that we offer to remain high in 2023.”

BIFA director general, Steve Parker adds: “Brexit, the switch from CHIEF to CDS, and the development of a relevant freight forwarding apprenticeship, are among a number of factors that have led to a significant increase in the demand for our training programmes.

“Graeme’s promotion is part of a strategy to further develop the portfolio of training activities that BIFA now offers, and he will lead the push to further enhance the quality of education and skills development that we offer as we seek to help members cultivate the next generation of freight forwarders.

“At the same time, it frees up Carl to spend more time working on other important initiatives that BIFA has in the pipeline, many designed to strengthen and support our engagement with our members.”
