SGS eTrade service helps access Burundi export markets

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is pleased to announce a brand new e-trade platform, the latest in a series of planned improvements to its pre-export verification of conformity (VOC) services for the Republic of Burundi.

The national standards body of Burundi, Bureau Burundais de Normalisation, has the responsibility of ensuring products exported to the country meet international quality standards in order to protect public and environmental health. Since 2014, SGS has provided product conformity assessment services exclusively for Burundi, on behalf of its Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

eTrade is a new platform developed by SGS which improves service quality for customers by securing productivity improvements and speeding up the duration of the conformity assessment process. Further digitalization improvements to SGS’s Burundi PCA services are being negotiated with the government of the Republic, with further details to be released in the coming months.

A certificate of conformity is necessary for all regulated export consignments to Burundi, and there are three routes available for obtaining this:

  • Route A: for unregistered traders and suppliers of manufacturers of sensitive goods
  • Route B (registration): for registered suppliers of manufactured goods and for frequent exporters with homogeneous products
  • Route C (licensing): for certified products from manufactures and their authorized representatives
