The International Trade Magazine team attended the ever-popular Intermodal Europe, and we come back with a review of the bustling event

What a successful return we saw from Intermodal Europe 2022!

Intermodal Europe last took place in 2019, and after a whole worldwide pandemic, the event was finally back as a live, in-person event, from November 8-10.

Intermodal is one of the largest events of its kind and received a very warm welcome back from the industry. The RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam was filled to the brim with industry professionals, all ready to finally interact with others in the industry face-to-face, rather than conducting business from behind a computer screen. Finally being able to conduct business in person was a breath of fresh air, and being able to exchange ideas and have in depth conversations with others made for a successful network.

Before the event went live, Intermodal’s Group Director, Rob Fisher, commented: “Nothing compares with the power of face-to-face meetings and the opportunity to engage with product demonstrations and industry experts that a ‘live’, in-person event provides.

“Intermodal Europe 2022 will be the essential gathering place for container shipping and intermodal transport leaders, professionals and suppliers to reconnect, stay ahead of supply chain trends and source the latest solutions from some of the world’s most innovative manufacturers and suppliers.”

And with this, he wasn’t lying or exaggerating. All three days of Intermodal Europe were filled with interesting talks and panels, and the exhibition floor bustling with products new and old, people raring to talk about the newest additions to their ranges. At the event there were over 30 hours of free expert talks and tonnes of in-person insights, innovations and inspirations from hundreds of exhibitors.

Rob Fisher continued, “As new supply chain challenges continue to emerge amidst the proliferation of online retail and changing buyer habits, both the conference and exhibition at Intermodal Europe will provide the ultimate opportunity for this important industry to prepare and protect their operations and exploit the potential of key opportunities on the horizon.”

The event tackled current problems within the industry head on, with professionals sharing their experiences and expertise, it helped bring the industry together. Everyone suffered during the pandemic and the issues it caused the industry, so finally bringing the industry together under one roof enabled people to share their solutions that have come about since the turbulent time.

 What happened?

With such a long time off from live events, and the last instalment of the exhibition taking place in 2019, there was a lot to catch up on. Throughout the exhibition, conversation flowed and all portions of the industry were discussed in detail although some topics came up a lot more than others. Across the talks and exhibitors, there was a specific interest on three areas of the industry: sustainability, supply chain visibility and the use of data in the industry.

With the hangover of the pandemic looming over us all, and the huge increase in e-commerce, it is of vital importance that the industry continues to improve visibility throughout the supply chain. Ensuring visibility throughout every facet of the supply chain is important in making sure that trust in the industry remains high and companies remain in control of the entire process.
